I asked Taryn to provde a little write up for me to post. It describes how she raised the money for PAAT 2009 and I thought this information might be helpful for anyone who has difficulty asking for pledges.

Congratulations again Taryn for having the highest pledge sheet in 2009.

For PAAT#1, I wrote a check for 50$ because I really do not like asking folks to sponsor me for anything regardless of what it is. For PAAT#2, I got brave and did a mini bottle drive through the generosity of good friends and sold a few cards at work. That, coupled with my personal donation of 50$, netted 100$. For PAAT#3, I pulled out all the stops.
I didn’t set out with any sort of goal or dream for raising funds this year, but once I got going it just added up!

Having purchased a rather large TV after Christmas, I was taking a nap one Sunday afternoon and as I was surfacing I had an idea. Why not host a movie night once a month until PAAT, invite friends in the nieghbourhood and see what happens? So, each second Friday of the month for January, February, March and April I welcomed folks into my home to watch a movie with me. They were asked to bring their beverage of choice and a freewill donation; I provided the popcorn. What a hoot! Each time we met, the chatting session at the beginning was longer and longer as people got to know each other and made connections. Apparently, the evening became a welcome respite from the winter blues so that was a really neat to hear. More than one person has asked if I can do it again next year!

Encouraged by the totals, I decided to extend my creativity to my work location. I made a batch of peanut brittle, packaged it in cute little cellophane bags, and sold it for two bucks a pop. Then, I hosted coffee break each day for a week at my work location, Despite the fact I was exhausted at the end of the week having baked every single night, it was totally worth it as I added the booty to the bank account.

Time flew, and it was time for PAAT#3. My gal pal Joline came all the way from Bathurst to attend for the second year and we packed up her car and headed to Middleton. Having arrived late, I was still in a bit of an organizing fog getting my stuff out and my table space ready for creating after I wrote a check and handed it to the Dream Team.

Imagine my surprise when Myleta (over the sound system) asked me to come up in front of the group. Then, she REALLY surprised me, because she announced I had won the prize for the most money raised for the cause! Holy Moly! I was flattened! Amazed! And SO PLEASED! I really had no idea I was in the running. The recognition meant a lot; the prize was just an added bonus. I couldn’t have done it without the support of friends and colleagues helping me Kick Cancer in the Butt (funds to prostate cancer research, remember…)!

Taryn raised over $700. for the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada, now Prostate Cancer Canada.

PAAT 2009- Simply The Best

Each PAAT, our Dream has been to provide an outlet for like minded paper artists to gather, have time to work on your projects and be with friends, to feel pampered and special (because you are!) and while this is happening, raise money and awareness for the charity of choice.
I think the pictures with this post show we were able to do exactly that. This miniature Scrapbookers' Room was created and donated by one of the Dream Team, Pam and her husband Charlie. It is an amazing piece of artwork you will want to own. The pictures really do not do it justice. The detail and character are better experienced in Real Life....if you would like to see this before the 2nd of May (PAAT), you can drop into The Bead Store in Middleton at 163 Main Street. Pam's hours of operation are: Thursday 10-5, Friday 10-5 and Saturday 10-1. If you know of anyone who is not attending PAAT but would like to purchase tickets on the Scrapbookers Room, The Wooden Carved Bear, a Hot Stone Massage or the Stampin' Up! Product, please email me and I will make arrangements for them to get tickets. Tickets are $1.00 for each of the items with all proceeds going to the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada.

What a Generous Community We Live In!

Look at what we are selling tickets on? Two years ago my friend Holly asked if I could help her with a fund raising idea using 'the hobbies we love'. She and her husband were raising money for the Arthritis Society through a program called Joints in Motion. Holly and I, along with the help of many others, came up with the idea of Paper Arts A Thon, a marathon of paper crafters. The success of this event went beyond our wildest dreams. We raised over $9600. for the Arthritis Society. We felt the idea had been a 'gift' and decided to do it again in 2008, with over $11,560. raised for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. We are now preparing to enter our 3rd Paper Arts A Thon.

Specifics of PAAT 2009

When: May 2nd and 3rd, 2009
Where: Family Life Center, Middleton
Time: 9 am Saturday (registration starts)
Paper Arts A Thon begins at 10:00 am and runs to 6 am Sunday
(You do not have to stay for the full event. We suggest you stay as long as you feel able.)

Charity of Choice: Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada
Visit this website to learn more about Prostate Cancer and the PCRFC.

We have several reasons for choosing this charity. One being, last year we chose the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, which would mostly assist women. It seemed appropriate that we might do the same for men. Another reason, we all have men that are in our lives: dads, husbands, boy friends, sons, brothers, uncles, friends, co-workers, to name a few. We, as women, are usually the care givers. We are the ones who typically remind these men to take care of themselves. Paper Arts A Thon has not only been a place to raise funds while enjoying your favorite hobby but it has been a place of education and awareness. I can still hear the words Vanessa (the representative from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation) spoke at last years event, how one in eight women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Reason number three: the statistics for men are much the same, one in seven men will be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.

What EXACTLY takes place at PAAT?

PAAT was created to give paper artists time and ample space to do what you love to do, work on your projects while spending time with friends or meeting new ones. During PAAT you can work on whatever project or projects you choose. There won't be a store or supplier on site, so be sure to bring what you need. To help keep you entertained and provide you with a chance to learn something new, Make N' Takes will be available for you to do. These are mini cards or projects that have been prepared for you to put together. The time and materials for these projects have been donated and we ask that you make a donation to cover this. The Make N Takes will be available to do throughout the day Saturday and possibly through the wee hours Sunday AM. During the event all meals and snacks will be provided. On the registration form you are asked if you would be willing to donate a food item and, closer to the event, we will contact you about this. There will be a Silent Auction table happening throughout the 20 hours. You won't believe the items that are on this table. The generosity of the Paper Crafting Community is visible here. During the event there will be plenty of door prizes given away. We always have lots of surprises to keep you entertained.

How are the FUNDS RAISED?

Each registrant will receive a pledge sheet. In the past participants have handled this in various ways. Some participants go to family and friends and collect donations to fill their pledge sheet. Charitable receipts will be issued through the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada (PCRFC). Other participants make a donation from their own pocket since there is no registration fee. Some participants raise money selling items, such as cards or other handmade items.
Funds are raised during the event through the Silent Auction Table and Make N Take projects. You will want to bring money along to participate in these.

What is NEW for PAAT in 2009?

The site for this year's PAAT has changed. The first year saw us at the Kingston Fire Hall and last year we were welcomed to the Nova Scotia Community College, Middleton Site.
This year we will be located at the Family Life Center in Middleton. This is a relatively new facility and we are in hopes, this will be the perfect fit for PAAT. The Family Life Center has a large gym which will house the event and the best part, a fully equipped kitchen that is very close to the gym. This will save many footsteps for the organizers and participants.

This year we have added new members to our Dream Team. Myself (Myleta Ross), Holly Hearn and Pam Lunnon remain from last year's team with Kathy Connell, Melissa Connell, Nancy Feener and Amy Ross joining us.

If you have any further questions or would like a registration form emailed to you please feel free to contact me at m.ross@ns.sympatico.ca.
If you have already registered for this event be sure to check back here on a regular basis for updated information.

I hope you are able to join us on May 2nd, 2009 in 'Using Our Hobbies to Benefit Others'.
Myleta Ross
Member of the 2009 Dream Team

The Final Tally

By all accounts PAAT 2008 was a huge success. Each participant who made and donated cards got their name in a draw for items given to PAAT by the Military Family Resource Center. Maureen Gillis was the winner if this draw. The cards from the Card Idea Album will go to our overseas troops as well. There is a shortage of greeting cards overseas and the cards are sent to our soldiers so they can send them back to their loved ones. Not only did you open them but you welcomed us with open arms....providing maintenance staff and offering everything you had available to enable us to do our job better.

Thank you to the Middleton Lions Club for the loan of the extra tables and for the cheque of $150. Your support was greatly appreciated.

Thank you to the businesses ( a Thank you card will go out to each of those listed below) for giving so generously. I suggest you bring stickles if you have them, many of the card ideas showcase them....us girls love our glitter! If you do not see a stamp set here that you know I own or think I might own, please email me and I will bring it.

Eleven More Sleeps!

I can't believe that Paper Arts A Thon 2008 is almost here! Throughout the event a table will be set up with lots of different items. There will be bidding sheets beside each item and throughout the event you can write your name on this sheet with an amount you are willing to pay. We add a little twist to this auction by giving each item a number and at announced times, throughout the event, we will call that number and if your name is last on the sheet you will be awarded the item. Last year there was quite an assortment of items: everything from Gucci handbags , Halloween candlebras, boat trips to lots of cardmaking and scrapbooking items.

I have had several people tell me they have a few extra scrapbooking supplies (don't we all!) they would like to part with and wondered if we could use these in anyway. My answer to this is Yes. We will combine a variety of items and put them on the Silent Auction Table. If you have any items you would like to donate please email me and I will make arrangements to collect them or you can bring them on the 3rd of May...which is just around the corner.

'Special Guest'

Did anyone notice the reference to the 'Special Guest' in the list of those providing Make N Takes?

We are pleased to have a 'Celebrity' in our midst at Paper Arts A Thon this year.

Now do not get me wrong, all Paper Artists are celebrities, especially if you are attending Paper Arts A Thon. For the organizers it is about planning cool stuff...can't tell you what, we've got to keep our secrets!, hosting a memorable event and having everyone come together for a wonderful weekend.

I wanted to let you know that while we are having all this fun, WHO we are raising money for. I felt the best way to do that is to let CBCF speak for themselves.

So please take a moment and check out the CBCF-Atlantic Division website:
Candian Breast Cancer Foundation-Atlantic Division

When you go to the website make note that on the left hand there is a sidebar and if you click on Funding you will notice that on the right hand side 'Related Links' will come up with a list of Grants Awarded in 2006-2007. If you click on this it provides a break down of where Grant Money went in 06-07.

Be sure to check out the information on Breast Cancer.

We have invited Vanessa Burns-Trivett, she is the Manager of Community Development for the Atlantic Division of CBCF, to come and speak at Paper Arts A Thon. She will be talking about where fund raising dollars go. We also wanted to provide some Breast Cancer Awareness and asked Vanessa if she would bring a Breast Model that is used to help women detect lumps. We hope you will take a few moments during Paper Arts A Thon to participate in this.

Vanessa will be bringing along some fund raising product like pins, hats, etc. that are available through CBCF to purchase.

I hope the above information will be helpful in your fund raising efforts and in your prevention of Breast Cancer. We can make a difference!

Food, Food & More Food

Anyone who attended last year's Paper Arts A Thon can tell you there was no shortage of food! I do not doubt for a minute that we (The Dream Team) will do our absolute best to rise to the challenge, after all we are going about this with out heART!

To date we have just 5 spaces left to fill, we can take 64 participants this year, thanks to the Nova Scotia Community College so generously donating their facility for us to use.

If you have not sent your registration form to me please do so, you can Email it to me.

Also if you have been collecting pledges and have received cheques (make sure they are made out to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation) you can mail them to me and I will send them on to Vanessa Burns-Trivett, she is the manager of the Community Development for CBCF. Our definition of success was 'Everyone would have a great time and we would raise money towards Holly and Terry Hearn's commitment to participate in 'Joints in Motion'. (Their marathon is in January 2008). The success of Paper Arts A Thon went beyond our wildest dreams. Almost $10,000. was raised and according to the survey sheets we asked everyone to fill out, it was one of the best, if not the best, event they had ever attended.

So.... we are doing it again! Paper Arts A Thon 2008 is a go!

Here are the specifics.
We are fund raising for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. We have been in touch with the Atlantic Division and they are pleased and willing to support us in this fund raising event anyway they can. We chose to raise money for CBCF for several reasons: although we know breast cancer can affect men, it is mostly known as a woman's disease; many of us have been touched by someone in our lives who have suffered or succumbed to breast cancer; it is a disease we, as women, more than likely all fear; we want to make a difference.

The registration numbers will increase. We have had so many people tell us they wished they could come so we will have 64 spots available, up 20 from last year. In order to do this we had to move to a new facility, the Nova Scotia Community College in Middleton has graciously opened there doors to us.

The event will be held the 3rd and 4th of May 2008. As Oprah says “when we know better we do better” and now we know 24 hours is just too long for everyone (although I do remember a few scrappy scrappers working diligently on pages at 6:00 am). Registration will start at 9:00 am on the 3rd of May with the event beginning at 10:00 am and we will continue on until 6:00 am Sunday, May 4th. A 20 hour event which still qualifies as a Marathon.

Each registrant will bring materials of there choice to work on throughout the 20 hour marathon. Whatever your paper hobby is, this will be a great opportunity to work on it. We will supply you with ample space to create with your friends.

We will do our best to see that everyone arrives and leaves safely, for those of you coming from New Brunswick (it wouldn't be the same without you!) we will ensure we have a plan worked out to get you here and back home safely.

We will offer some half marathon spots the same as we did last year. These will run from 10 am until 10 pm on the 3rd of May (although those who stayed on were VERY glad they did, we plan lots of Surprises! throughout the night). We also want to reaffirm our intent that everyone needs to do this safely, so if you are too tired to continue please feel free to leave at anytime.

The Dream Team provided most of the food last year, with some much appreciated help from friends! As you can imagine, feeding 64 people (last year I am sure the participants will agree they did not go away hungry) lunch, supper and snacks and a light breakfast can be a costly venture. We had tried to find a food store to help out with this but we had little success. This year we are asking (it is on your registration form) if you would be willing to bring a food item. As the event draws near and if you have answered yes to this, we will contact you with a list of items needed and give you an opportunity to choose what item would be best for you to donate. This will certainly help out with the overhead costs and eliminate a registration fee.

Which leads me to explain, to anyone new, that there is no registration fee for this event. The way we raise money for CBCF will be through Pledge Sheets which each of you will receive when you register and as you are participating in a Marathon (Paper Arts) you will canvas family and friends to make a donation to CBCF. (your pledge sheet will give specifics about tax deductions, etc). A few participants last year instead of canvassing for pledges made items and sold them to raise money or made a sizable donation in lieu of a registration fee.

At Paper Arts A Thon a couple of other fund raising events will be happening. During the 20 hour event we will have Make N Take projects available for you to do. The materials for these projects will have been donated and we ask that you make a donation to do these projects. Please note on your registration sheet a place where you can let us know if you are interested in doing these or not. This will make it easier to know how many Make N Take projects to prepare for.
We also held a fun and very successful Silent Auction filled with great items to bid on.

So.. .what you need to do...

Mark your Calendar's for Paper Arts A Thon May 3rd & 4th 2008.

Email me for your registration form, information sheet and pledge sheet.

Send the Registration form back as quickly as possible. (Remember there are only 64 spots).

Plan to have one of the best weekends ever! We, the Dream Team, have a tough task of living up to your expectations but as we stated last year, we know the bar was set high, and we will do our best to meet it and hopefully we will exceed it!

HOPE... we all need to live with HOPE that we can make a difference and we will see a cure for Breast Cancer.

BELIEVE... The generousity and spirit will long be remembered and will carry us through until Paper Arts A Thon 2008.

The final tally of funds raised was $9673.78. Amazing!

'Thank you' to those who attended and 'Thank You' to all of you who could not attend but showed your support in so many other ways, purchasing tickets, donating and or helping serve food, donating silent auction items.

We have a full year to prepare for the 2008 Paper Arts A Thon and as we have expressed: The bar was set high at our first Paper Arts A Thon and we know we can never exceed it but we will do our VERY best to meet it!

In the meantime we are preparing for our next fundraising venture. We, Holly, Jackie, Bonnie and I had decided prior to Paper Arts A Thon that we should continue fundraising for Joints in Motion/ Arthritis Society. The decision was made for two reasons. One, we didn't want the fun for us to end, we had such a blast preparing for Paper Arts A Thon and two, we didn't know the outcome of Paper Arts A Thon and if more $$$'s would be needed. Although we exceeded our desired goal we decided to continue with fundraising as dollars are still needed for the Arthritis Society.
So... please join us for

'Kick Off to the Christmas Spirit'

When: Saturday, November 24th, 2007
Where: Nova Scotia Community College
Middleton, Nova Scotia
Time: 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

What’s happening: A day to spend with your friends, making everything imaginable to get you in the mood and prepared for Christmas! You will go away with cards, tags, gift ideas and Christmas ornaments. Lunch will be served. Cost: $30.00

Please register by contacting:
Myleta Ross orHolly Hearn

Fundraiser For the Arthritis Society/Joints in Motion
Registration cut off: November 1st,2007

At Paper Arts A Thon we explained that we wanted every penny we fundraise at 'Kick Off to the Christmas Spirit' to go to Joints in Motion and we did not want to go to individuals and businesses to ask for donations. Instead we are asking anyone that would be interested in donating their recycling to us (either the recyclables and we will turn them in or the dollars from the recyclables) and we will use these dollars to purchase the materials needed to make the Christmas projects we have planned for you. Any money left over from the recycling collected will go to Joints in Motion.
If you are interested in donating your recyclables please contact Holly or I at the above addresses.

Again, Thank you for your support in our first fundraising event and we hope you will join us in November, a reunion of sorts and a chance to (as Jaime put it) 'Change the World, one piece of Paper at a time'.

Happy Stamper,
Myleta

A Magic Carpet Ride!

This is a copy of my post to my 'Happy Stamper' Blog. A long post but a 'brief' description of 'WHAT HAPPENED' at Paper Arts A Thon. Thank you to Marianne, Dave, Charlene, Paul and Stampin' Stud who came in at meal times to help out!

If I was asked to describe our first Paper Arts A Thon, this is the best description. The 24-hour event was pure magic and everything went so smoothly it MUST have been a carpet ride.

Bonnie, Holly, Jackie and I were at the Fire Hall at 8:00 am to finish off any last minute preparations. It seemed propitious that Elaine was our first Paper Artist to arrive. None of us had met Elaine before as she had heard about the event at Michael’s. When Elaine registered back in April she was pleasantly surprised to find out Paper Arts A Thon was a fundraiser for Arthritis as she is an Arthritis sufferer and that the day of the event was the 26th May as that is her birthday.
Shortly after Elaine arrived everyone started rolling in. It was so much fun greeting old friends and meeting new ones. Everyone was thrilled with their goody bags and excited to get the day underway. After ‘teary’ speeches from Holly and I, we turned the mike over to Jackie. We knew she would lift everyone’s spirit and get us all in the mood for the PARTY! She asked that everyone stand and introduce themselves, telling where they were from and how they got to attend Paper Arts A Thon. Bonnie then got the fun ‘job’ of drawing for a few door prizes!
By now you are thinking she is going to give us every little detail and how long will this post be? I won’t do that to you. I’ll just skip ahead touching on the high points and ‘surprises’.
While everyone got down to creating their own projects and participating in the Make N Takes, Jackie and Bonnie started counting the pledge sheet totals with Terry (Holly’s husband) nearby to post the totals on the ‘Thermometer’ he had created. Terry kept saying, “Can I go post another number now?” which told us he shared in our excitement. It didn’t take us long to see where this was headed, straight to the TOP and when the girls gave me their total, I nearly passed out, I had to grab the kitchen counter for support. We were in such shock over the total they decided to count it again in case there was a mistake but no, the total from the pledge sheets was $7578.00 and the Hearn’s needed to raise $7800.
Okay, if I keep posting like this, I will have a post a mile long, so I think I will just post in point form some highlights.
-the donations for the Silent Auction table, all were fabulous but there were a couple of last minute surprises. A boat trip (glad you won Alex but I wish I had the foresight to start bidding sooner). A collector’s print of Sable Island horses that was used for a postage stamp.
-Cranky pants, I won’t forget those Cranky pants wrapped around, heads, necks, Amy wearing them and pulled up to her arm pits and Angie flinging them outside, even good natured Terry got to wear them.
-Karaoke! I warned those girls that I could not sing but they made me do it! I have now discovered there is another ‘person’ living inside me and to tell you the truth ‘she’ scares me. On May 26th as one person described it, I went from a Karaoke virgin to a Karaoke slut!
-Elaine waltzing across the floor in her ‘Beautiful Sparkly Birthday’ crown.
-Alice, how can I every forget the kindness of Alice, who put together certificates for Holly, Bonnie, Jackie and myself, along with cards that best suited us, for everyone to sign.
-Our Belly Dancer. At 2:00 am we had everyone close their eyes and we turned out the lights. When the lights came on standing before them was the most beautiful Belly Dancer you have ever seen. With beauty and grace she danced up a storm. The room was electric with energy. This recharged us for the remainder of the night. After her beautiful dance she passed out scarves and coined skirts for a few brave souls to try their hand or hips at Belly Dancing. Our sweet Holly took to this like a duck to water and wore that coined skirt for HOURS (slightly embellished here for you Sandra).
-THE PARAMEDIC! Now if you were a participant you would know that Jackie had been sending out emails to everyone and in a couple of them she mentioned ‘scent sensitivity’ as she suffers from this and although she is a single Mom still didn’t want a handsome Paramedic showing up to rescue her. Well, Terry heard about this and arranged for, you guessed it, a VERY GOOD LOOKING paramedic dressed in full gear, to come in to see Jackie. The stage for this couldn’t have been better; she was at the front of the room before everyone when he stepped up behind her, and the look on her face was priceless when she turned to see him there!
-HEADS OR TAILS. Taryn you truly rocked! They loved ‘ya and I do to! Thanks heaps!
-EGG ROLLS. What could egg rolls have to do with Paper Arts A Thon? Pam (who owns the Bead Store) and her husband Charlie arrived sometime after midnight with a huge bag of hot egg rolls for EVERYONE! I tell you the truth when I say; they were the BEST egg rolls I have ever eaten. The look on everyone’s faces was pure heaven. Terry just could not believe that ANYONE would show up in the middle of night like that with EGGROLLS!
-Just as I DREAMED, there sat Karen and the gals from New Brunswick. Karen sharing stamps and ideas with Jill. Amy scrapping beside them. Angie nearby making everyone laugh. Michelle making new friends. Josee and the gang keeping the creative juices going. Debbie always nearby with hugs. Gayle wired but present. Kathryn pulling it together at the last minute so she could share the experience with us. The Two Much Girls, Melissa, so glad you could make it, Ria, Paulette and Alex. Holly’s friends Gail and Millie. Always there for you, Kaye and her friend Cathy. The J J’s, Jenny-Jane and Jocelyn, along with a couple of P’s (Pam and Pam) not to be forgotten Heather (after all she is the one to have called me the Karaoke ----). Bea, so very talented Bea, sharing a table with Alice, Jaime and Elaine (half marathoners). Newfound friends and kindred spirits, Margaret, Trina, Angie and Iris.
As the wee hours rolled in we decided it best (for safety reasons) to do the final draws and make our closing remarks early. We were all worried about the Wonderful Women (Sandra, Linda, Angie, Roberta, Nancy, Pam, Joy and Karen) making the long drive home to NB. The final total, after proceeds from the Silent Auction, Make N Takes and Draws was added up, came to over $9600.00. Unbelievable in some ways but when I think of the generosity, love and spirit in the Kingston Fire Hall on the 26th and 27th of May I am not surprised!
Even before the 26th of May I was describing Paper Arts A Thon as one of the best experiences of my life! I can never fully explain what ‘happened’ on the 26th and 27th of May but I feel in many ways that we (Holly, Jackie, Bonnie and myself) were merely a vessel for all good things to come to Paper Arts A Thon. THANK YOU again, Holly, for giving me the opportunity to take part in a LIFE CHANGING experience!

Last Post Until After Paper Arts A Thon

We are winding down or maybe it is UP for Paper Arts A Thon. All of the preparations are coming together. We will start loading our vehicles and heading to the Fire Hall very soon. If you are attending you will have received one final (I think that is it) email from Jackie. I look forward to seeing you at the Kingston Fire Hall on Saturday, May 26th. Registration starts at 9:00 am. I have added a few more donations to the list in the previous post. We are pretty much prepared for Paper Arts A Thon although last minute ideas keep popping up in our heads to add some finishing touches. By now, if you are attending, you have received three emails from Jackie, the last one with a checklist with ‘Things To Bring’.

You will all be working on your own projects and I am excited to see what ‘Creations’ will come from our 24 hours together. I know some of you have decided to make ‘Cards For Our Troops’ and there will be a place to deposit those. I will match each card with an envelope, as my donation to this worthy cause.

Donations keep coming in and at the end of this week I will post the remainder of them. There will be a poster at Paper Arts A Thon with the long list of people/ businesses who have made this possible.

So until Saturday, do get plenty of rest. Pack your bags as early as possible. This will allow you time to add those extra things you have forgotten. Drive safely to Paper Arts A Thon, we want you all there safe and sound.
If you are unable to attend but would like to stop in to say ‘Hello’, please feel free to do so. We are at the Kingston Fire Hall on Sparky Street in Kingston.
See you on the 26th May, our 1st Paper Arts A Thon!

Happy Stamper,
Myleta Ross

A Request

I have had a request to post ALL of the stamp sets I will be bringing (I will have a 'Book of Card Ideas' to help the card makers attending) and I will be bringing all of my inks, punches and the stamp sets listed below. Every participant has received a pledge sheet. I have had a few Paper Artists tell me that canvassing for pledges just isn’t easy for them to do.

I wanted to share with you some of the ‘creative’ alternatives they have come up with to raise money for ‘Joints in Motion’ and the ‘Arthritis Society’.

One Paper Artist is making handmade items and selling them. You may know her as Paper Memories and as she posted on her blog a while ago, she has raised $150. (Check out her Countdown to Paper Arts A Thon)

Another Paper Artist starting tucking ONE DOLLAR A DAY away, when this event was first announced.

Another ‘inventive’ and ‘ecological’ way to raise $$$’s is to turn in your recyclables and donate the dollars through your pledge sheet.

I had someone else tell me that canvassing for Pledges just isn’t for them and they are donating out of their own pocket what they might consider a ‘Registration Fee’ since there is no such fee to attend Paper Arts A Thon.

All great ideas! And all for a worthy cause! If you would like to share your ideas please post to the comments page.

See you on the 26th,
Happy Stamper
Myleta Ross

Two Raffle Items

These are two items we are selling tickets on. Our commitee of four met last evening to go over what has been happening and to fine tune our plans.

1. We have decided to do a few 'Half Paper Arts A Thon' spaces for those who might find it difficult to stay the full 24 hours. We only have 4 spaces available and it will be first come first serve. (After the 4 your name will go on a waiting list). You will start at 10:00 am Saturday and go to 10:00 pm that evening. Your name will go in the draws that are during that time frame.

2. There are spaces for 40 full Paper Arts A Thon particpants and we are at the halfway mark for these.

3. All meals, snacks, drinks are included. Not to worry ladies, you will not leave this event, hungry or thirsty!

4. During the day we will have several Make 'N Take projects available for you to do. The materials for these projects will be donated and so we are asking that if you wish to do these Make 'N Takes you will make a donation toward them, with all proceeds going to the Arthritis Society.

5. Each particpant will receive a 'Goodie Bag' AND your name will be placed in, not a hat but a decorated Paint Can, for HOURLY Draws!

6. Several 'Raffles' will soon be under way. (As soon as we get our lottery numbers.) The draws for these items will take place on the 27th May before we leave the Fire Hall. Some of the items to be raffled are:

Stampin' Up! Goodie Basket- hodge podge hardware kit, set of stamps, Itty Bitty Book, 12x12 patterned paper, 12x12 cardstock, etc. Valued at $150.+

'Color Challenge Book' by Karen-an ATC album decorated and with many SCS colr challenges in side (I will post a link to this later)

'Paper Tole Print' by Pam- her prints are AWESOME!!!

These are a few of the raffle items and more will be added as details come in.

7. At the Paper Arts A Thon there will be several OTHER raffle baskets available for you to purchase tickets on. These tickets will only be available to the 44 particpants.

8. IMPORTANT: These are the things you will NEED to bring! A rested body! A willingness to HAVE the BEST TIME with your FRIENDS! Supplies to work on the projects of your choice- don't forget glue, adhesives!! You will want to bring 'change' to participate in the Make N Takes and the Raffles.

9. Oh my! I have left the Best information to the last!
